tratos_iberica.jpgTratos Cavi Iberica S.L. was created in January 2008 by a strategic decision of the President of the Group, Albano Bragagni. Previously Tratos had operated in Spain via local agents in the energy and flexible cable market, but never had the opportunity to stabilise a presence in the territory due to the lack of long-term contracts.

The end of 2007 determined the turning point: a new strategic collaboration between Telefonica of Spain and Telecom Italia convinced Tratos to monitor more closely the telecommunication market in Spain and to participate more actively with regard to International tenders. The success with one of these tenders, for multipair copper cables, generated a long term supply contract. At this time Sergio Troili, formerly a senior executive with Marconi, joined the group to form a new arm of the organization: Tratos Cavi Iberica.

Initially the efforts in Spain were focused on strengthening relationships with Telefonica, managing the contract and  submitting new proposals for co-operation in other areas of the Telecommunications market. Within a few months Tratos also forged new relationships with other multinationals and key local companies in the telecommunication’s field..

It is worth mentioning the activity with Telefonica in the field of FTTH (Fiber To The Home) which resulted in the realisation of an experimental installation in a ten floors building in the center of Madrid, and the participation to various tenders, some of them ended with success (cables for xDSL, cables for ISDN).

At the same time a marketing campaign was organized to reach alternative operators in Spain and  the regionals operators in other countries in the Iberian Peninsula. Today R of Galicia and SOM of Andorra are our customers and in particular SOM represents a supplier reference having signed with Tratos Cavi Iberica a contract for the FTTH fiber system. It is worth noting that in Europe there are still very few examples of FTTH networks in operation since the great majority of operators have previously made only experimental trials.

At the beginning of 2009 Tratos Cavi Iberica entered into a second phase. New activities started to follow up of the business opportunities of Tratos for Ports (Tratosflex and other special cables) and then the final and logical decision was taken by the President Albano Bragagni to extend the responsibility of Tratos Cavi Iberica to the entire market opportunities in the Iberian region including the promotion and sales of energy cables for low medium voltage.
